The next generation of educators is already making an impact. Students from the Killeen ISD Career Center recently competed among thousands of students at the Texas Association of Future Educators State Competition, with four students earning national qualification after receiving exceptional scores on their projects and presentations.

Representing Killeen ISD with excellence, Aliyza Ramirez and Alannah Bush qualified for nationals in the Teacher Created Materials event, while Yanely Calvillo and Madelyn “Maddie” Harvey earned national qualification in the Service Project category.

To advance to nationals, students were required to score at least a 97 on both their project and presentation, demonstrating outstanding preparation, creativity, and professional presentation skills.

The TAFE State Competition is part of the Teach Tomorrow Summit, an annual statewide event that brings together more than 3,700 aspiring educators from across Texas.

Students compete in events designed to develop leadership skills, explore careers in education, and gain hands-on experience in teaching and service-based projects.

In addition to the four national qualifiers, one additional Career Center student competed at the state level, gaining valuable experience in the competitive environment.

Two additional students also participated in the Education Leadership Fundamentals test, further demonstrating the program’s commitment to preparing students for future careers in education.

For many students, the experience of presenting and competing at the state level was both challenging and rewarding. Alannah Bush, a national qualifier in the Teacher Created Materials event, reflected on the experience.

"Competing at TAFE State was an amazing experience. Presenting our project in front of judges was definitely nerve-racking, but it also showed me how much I’ve learned about teaching and leadership,” she said.

Qualifying for nationals makes all the hard work worth it, and I’m excited to represent our school and keep growing as a future educator," said Bush.

Tina Tamplen, Career Center TAFE advisor, praised the dedication and commitment her students demonstrated throughout the competition.

"Watching these students grow into confident future educators is incredibly rewarding," Tamplen said.

"Their dedication, creativity, and passion for serving others truly stood out. Competing at the state level among thousands of students is an achievement in itself, and earning a place at nationals reflects the hard work and heart they have put into their projects."

The national qualifiers will now represent Killeen ISD and the Career Center on the national stage, continuing to showcase the talent, leadership, and passion of students preparing to inspire the next generation of learners.
